How would you feel if one of your friends who had previously been an atheist decided that they were now a theist? Would you feel differently about them or would it make no difference? Would you ask them why?

Some conversions result in severe personality changes – people get obnoxious about it, stop doing the things that made them fun or interesting and spend most of their energy trying to convert everyone they know. In that case I’d write them off and move on.
But if they simply decided they now believed in a god, and it didn’t change their personality or their actions, it would make no difference to me. Belief or non-belief should be as trivial as your favorite flavor of ice cream, or which sports team you like.

Yes, I would feel very differently about them, and I would ask them why. Depending on their answer, I may end/modify the relationship. I want people in my close, intimate circle to think clearly so I can get better at it. If it is an acquaintance, it would not make any difference.

Depends.
If they seem to be the same person, I don’t think it matters. I’m friends with lots of theists.

It wouldn’t make much difference, and I wouldn’t force them to talk about it. Theists are people too, you know …
