“Islam is a religion of peace.” Ive heard it many, many times, but I simply don’t buy it. It obviously is not a religion of peace and to claim that it is would be equivalent of claiming that Nazism is a political ideal of peace.
My question is, why is it people seem so desperate to claim that Islam is a religion of peace when it is so clearly not.
I have already answered this question myself and I just want to hear your opinions on my idea. The reason is because Christianity, just like Islam, is not a religion of peace. The Bible teaches genocide, slavery, torture, stoning, and all sorts of other things that are obviously counter productive to achieving peace. So in order to admit that Islam is not a religion of peace, it would also require one to admit that Christianity is not a religion of peace. But of course, whether you be atheist, or Christian, chances are you are in some way attached to Christianity. Pretty much all my extended family are church goers and pray-ers, but they are also the nicest kindest people I know. Saying their belief system is cruel is something I just don’t want to say, even though I know it to be true while at the same time they just seem to pretend its not. I think if America happened to be a 90% Buddhist as opposed to 90% Christian, you would almost never see anyone claiming that Islam is a religion of peace. Because Buddhism actually is a religion of peace, or at least, much more deserving of the title than any of the Jewish based religions.
Looking forward to some unbiased feedback on this. Thanks :)

Islam is a religion of peace, and if the model for peaceful living set up by Sharia and the Hadith were strictly followed, the world would have greater peace than it has had in the entire history of man.
Allow me to explain: If Islam were to have its way, all non-Muslims would be killed or converted. This would leave only Muslims. As we’ve seen in Muslim states, Muslims can’t even get along with each other. So the Muslims would just start killing each other over minor differences of Koranic interpretation. On and on the killing goes until there is only a small band of humans left, and with no support from the mass of humanity after thousands of years of depending on the rest of humanity to survive, they will quickly die off. And, since war is an exclusively human concept, there could be no war, and, by definition, the entire planet would be peaceful.
So there you have it: The only true path to global peace lies within the blood-spattered pages of Islamic doctrine.

It’s a “religion of peace” under specific conditions defined by Islam. The Islamic idea of peace is founded on a single global Ummah, a world in which everyone is either a Muslim or a subject of Islam with reduced rights.
If there isn’t peace today, well, that’s not Islam’s fault, is it? Since there are still Kafir in the world who will not submit to Islam, of course there isn’t Peace yet. One day Islam will rule the world, all dissenting views will be silenced, and then there will be Peace under Islam. Right?
