I am taking a class where we discuss religion. While in class we had a discussion on whether evolution is credible. I am one of three in the class that believe in evolution, since there was an argument over it; I am to provide evidence supporting evolution against those others in the class supporting creationism. I have some ideas of what I am going to discuss for evidence towards evolution. I was hoping that you could help provide me with more substantial evidence. Thank you so much.
The YouTube user DonExodus2 has some pretty good videos laying out some of the most important evidence for evolution.
I second the recommendations of Jerry Coyne’s Why Evolution Is True and the Talk Origins website.
In addition to the books already discussed, you might also read Donald R. Prothero’s Evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters. If you have the time, Richard Dawkins’ The Ancestor’s Tale is also a good recounting of the evidence for evolution.
As a general source of all sorts of information, pro and con, about evolution, the Talk Origins web site is excellent.
SmartLX has provided some excellent suggestions.
It won’t help you now, but in September Richard Dawkins’s new book will be available: The Greatest Show on Earth. It is purely about the evidence for evolution and will be a great resource for you then. In the meantime, Jerry Coyne’s book is excellent too.
The book which most directly addresses your needs is Why Evolution Is True by Jerry Coyne. Your Inner Fish is also very good, though it focuses on the evolution of humans.
The Wikipedia article on the evidence for evolution lists all the different types of evidence, and will give you plenty of leads to research. Likewise, the article on objections to evolution will show you the kinds of things you’ll get thrown at you, and some basic responses.
Good luck.
