I have heard it so often… “I will love you forever. In this life and in the afterlife”. We are assuming the loving person will move to a different plane (one where to love is allowed, heaven?).
If there is no afterlife and our “soul” or “consciousness” goes no where after dying; then love ends. Right?

Love is an emotion, a state of mind. It is not a life force (whatever that means!) And it definitely is not eternal. The mind with its emergent properties like emotions stops existing when we die.
However, I regard when people say I will love you forever, they don’t exactly mean that they will do so in an afterlife, but it is more of a way of stating the intensity of the emotion, that they can’t imagine ever being without the loved one.
As long as there are humans, there will be love. The love long gone for some will inspire others via poetry, art, and literature.

Love ends in a sense. However, if for example a man dies while in love with his wife, people can legitimately say, “He always loved her.” Though he’s not there to do any more loving, his love for her survives symbolically into posterity. It lives on through records, pictures and other people.

That’s right. Love, like life, isn’t eternal. Enjoy it while it lasts.
