Atheist public and community service volunteering?

I’m looking for links to some athiest groups that perform community service or public service of some sort that I can volunteer with. Can you provide that to me?

It seems that most groups of volunteering atheists don’t explicitly mention that they’re atheists. I completely understand this. They’re often made up of a mixture of people of all different beliefs. Adding the word “atheist” to an organisation’s title is unnecessarily exclusive. What has atheism got to do with it? If you were starting a homeless shelter you wouldn’t bother mentioning that you don’t believe in unicorns.

Groups like the Red Cross and Unicef are not explicitly “atheist”, but many of their supporters are. Why would they want to exclude religious people? These groups are about helping people in need, not about beliefs.

If you prefer, other groups such as the Foundation Beyond Belief are more explicitly non-religious.

The American Red Cross (despite the seemingly religious symbol is a secular humanitarian organization) has a means for you to identify your local branch so you can volunteer.

You can also locate your local chapter of various humanist/atheist groups in order to volunteer. Google is your friend.

Bravo and happy volunteering!

(Red Cross is an international organization, I am just guessing you live in America! If not, search for your country’s branch. We have bopped around in three countries, and we have always been able to do some volunteering at a Red Cross branch)
